Demeter
Despair? Defiance? What is the nature of resistance? I've been mulling over these questions for awhile now.
Today I spent some time with Demeter, Ancient Greek Goddess of the Harvest. Tragically, her beloved daughter Persephone was kidnapped by Hades and taken to the underworld.
To make a long story short, Demeter is out of her mind with grief and rage. She throws down the gauntlet of winter, and she doesn't relent until Persephone returns in the spring.
Despair, defiance, resistance. Demeter embodies all three.
